21. Helicopters and balloons should be able to hover and wait for the Earth to move under them in order to get to their destinations

” If the Earth were truly constantly spinning Eastwards at over 1000mph, helicopters and hot-air balloons should be able to simply hover over the surface of the Earth and wait for their destinations to come to them!”

Dubay does not understand that the atmosphere rotates with the Earth’s rotation

Hovering balloons and helicopters fly within the atmosphere.
When they hover they are still moving with the atmosphere.

Since the atmosphere is moving in sync with the Earth, on a windless day a hovering balloon or helicopter will remain stationary above the same point on the Earth.

The Earth will not be moving underneath it.

Flat Earthers also seem to get a little confused with the concept of wind so I'll expand on that a little.

The atmosphere as a whole rotates with the Earth, but within the atmosphere there are rotating currents which means that we often experience local winds.  The wind we experience depends on the motion of the local atmosphere at ground level relative to the motion of the Earth.

For example if we are at a location on Earth where the rotation is 1000 mph, and the atmosphere at ground level is rotating with the Earth at 1000 mph we would be experiencing a totally still day with no wind.

If the atmosphere at our location at ground level is moving with the rotation of the Earth at 1020 mph we would experience that as an 20 mph easterly wind.

If the atmosphere at our location at ground level is moving with the rotation of the Earth at 980 mph we would experience that as an 20 mph westerly wind.
