94. Viewing the Isle of White from Portsmouth Harbour you should see a convex curved shoreline on a spherical Earth

"From the highland near Portsmouth Harbor in Hampshire, England looking across Spithead to the Isle of  Wight, the entire base of the island, where water and land come together composes a perfectly straight line 22 statute miles long. According to the ball-Earth theory, the Isle of Wight should decline 80 feet from the center on each side to account for the necessary curvature. The cross-hairs of a good theodolite directed there, however, have repeatedly shown the land and water line to be perfectly level."

Dubay again fails to comprehend the size of the Earth and how this affects our ability to see the Earth's curve.

Although Dubay gives no information about distance or elevation, the only elevated point I can find with a clear view of the Isle of Wight is Portsdown Hill at an elevation of 429 feet, 4 miles from Portsmouth Harbour and 11 miles from the Isle of Wight.

Note first how the Isle of Wight in the photo above bears no resemblance to the diagram given by Dubay.

Using Dubay's figure of 22 miles of the Island in view, the "drop" that is visible at either end of the island is indeed approximately 80 feet as stated.

For simplicity sake we will ignore the fact that from Portsdown Hill we are looking at the island at an angle and assume that we are looking at it straight on.

This would make the distance from the hill to the ends of the island approximately 15.5 miles.

Next let us consider how much lower that would make the angle of our view when looking at the ends of the island compared to looking at the centre.  I.e. how much of a different angle do we have to look at for an 80 foot drop at a distance of 15.5 miles (81,840 feet).

Using simple trigonometry we can work it out to be 0.056 degrees!  No-one could possibly hope to notice that with the naked eye, and I reckon it would be a pretty hard job with a Theodolite.

Dubay is simply trying to fool the reader by drawing a grossly exaggerated diagram, and once again we can see that he has failed to prove anything.
