43. Dubay makes up some lies about aircraft not flying over Antarctica

“If  Earth was a ball there are several flights in the Southern hemisphere which would have their quickest, straightest path over the Antarctic continent such as Santiago, Chile to Sydney, Australia. Instead of taking the shortest, quickest route in a straight line over Antarctica, all such flights detour all manner of directions away from Antarctica instead claiming the temperatures too cold for airplane travel! Considering the fact that there are plenty of flights to/from/over Antarctica, and NASA claims to have technology keeping them in conditions far colder (and far hotter) than any experienced on Earth, such an excuse is clearly just an excuse, and these flights aren’t made because they are impossible.”

Blatant lies again

Lie 1.  Flights do not fly over Antarctica.  

They do.

Quantas flight QF63/QF64 from Johannesburg to Sydney flies over the edge of Antarctica and can be seen to do so by the passengers.   See this YouTube video taken by a passenger.

If the flat Earth map was correct this would be a massive detour.



However it is true that flights generally avoid flying over Antarctica for the following reasons:

  1. Internationally agreed rules ban twin engine planes for safety reasons.  Four engined planes have no such restriction.
  2. International rules means that aircraft must carry extra safety equipment which reduces the seats that they can have.
  3. Wind patterns mean that it is often faster to fly around Antarctica.

On top of that there are commercial reasons why many airline routes do not fly direct.  Airlines typically operate on a spoke and hub basis.  I.e.  they have a main airport through which they route all their flights.  This allows them to service many more destinations.  For example Emirates flights ALL fly via Dubai.


Lie 2.  Airlines claim it is too cold for aircraft to fly over Antarctica.  

No-one claims this.

Antarctica is a tricky problem for flat earthers.  It's very existence disproves flat Earth so they have no option but to simply deny its existence and ignore all evidence to the contrary.  In order to ignore all the evidence they are then forced to concoct all manner of conspiracy theories.  

It would be straight forward to prove its existence or non existence simply by attempting to charter a plane for an overflight but no-one has ever tried.  Flat earthers never seem that keen on actually putting their ideas to the test, presumably because it is easier to believe nonsense if you never look into it too closely.

The fact that, if this was how reflections worked, that the same would be true on a flat Earth seems to have escaped Dubay's notice. Debunking Eric Dubay's 200 proofs the earth is not a spinning ball

Conspiracy Baloney aims to provide resources to counter to the influence of the crazy anti-science conspiracy theories that are out there. This blog is specifically to debunk Eric Dubay's " 200 proofs the earth is not a spinning ball", that I have found flat earthers often cite. There are quite a few resources out there that comprehensively debunk this book, but I think that one more voice can only help.  I have tried to keep the rebuttals as non technical as possible. Eric Dubay’s proofs are laughably simplistic and demonstrate an almost complete lack of understanding of maths and anything scientific or technical.
