18. The Michelson-Morley and Sagnac experiments failed to detect any significant change in the speed of light caused by the motion of the earth, which proves that the earth is stationary

"The Michelson-Morley and Sagnac experiments attempted to measure the change in speed of light due to Earth’s assumed motion through space.  After measuring in every different possible direction in various locations they failed to detect any significant change whatsoever , again proving the stationary geocentric model.”

Dubay quotes science out of context to support a false conclusion

Again Dubay and the Flat Earthers mis-interpret the results of scientific experiment ignoring the conclusions of the scientists who actually devised and conducted the experiment.

This experiment was nothing to do with proving whether the Earth was stationary or in motion.  The scientists in keeping with the scientific consensus accepted that the Earth was in motion.  The prevailing belief was that because light was a wave, it must be propagated through a medium in a similar way to waves being propagated through water.  This medium was named Luminiferous Aether.

However there were two theories about this Aether.

Stationary Aether

Aether is stationary and the Earth moves through it.  This would be experienced as  an "Aether wind" on Earth.

Aether drag

Aether is dragged along by the Earth as it moves around the Sun and rotates.   Because the Aether is moving with the Earth, no Aether wind would be experienced on Earth.

href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelson%E2%80%93Morley_experiment

The experiment was set-up to prove or disprove whether an Aether wind was being experienced on Earth.

If the Aether wind existed the scientists expected to see differences in the speed of light when travelling in different directions relative to this Aether wind.  The result of the experiment was that the speed of light did not change implying that there was no "Aether wind" and therefore a stationary Aether does not exist.

Flat Earthers noticed that if a stationary Aether did exist, the absence of an Aether wind in this experiment would imply that the Earth is stationary.

Flat Earthers of course choose to maintain that Aether does exist, citing the Michealson-Gale experiment (1925), in order to claim that Airy's failure proves that the Earth is stationary.

However, again they are mis-representing the conclusion of the experiment. The Michealson-Gale results are consistent with two possible conclusions.

a. That Aether does not exist and Einstein's theory of special relativity is correct
b. That Aether does exist and Earth experiences an Aether wind. I.e. That the Aether is stationary and that the Earth moves through the Aether.

Firstly if you believe that this experiment shows that Aether exists you must also accept that the Earth is NOT stationary which is inconsistent with Flat Earther belief.

More importantly Michealson-Morley experiment rules out the existence if a stationary Aether and the Michealson-Gale experiment rules out the existence of Aether drag.  I.e. Both Aether options are ruled out so Aether does not exist in any form.  This leaves Einstein's special relativity as the only option that is consistent with all the results.

These proofs are simply trying to fool the gullible by quoting things out of context.
